Nobody dishes like the St. Augustine/Ponte Vedra culinary crowd! From fusion creations to more traditional dishes, it’s no stretch to say that you could find something delicious to try every week. However, when you’re short on time and want to sample some of the area’s best dishes, take a look at these four top dishes.
Catch of the Day at Aqua Grill
Aqua Grill faithfully delivers feel-good, taste-good favorites. Whether you like the classics such as the always popular fried seafood platter or prefer something more adventurous like the herb-crusted tofu, Aqua Grill has it! We recommend the Catch of the Day: It’s prepared Hemingway-style—rubbed with herbs and sesame seeds then lightly sautéed. Served with a sun-dried tomato sauce, this dish is reasonably priced at $22. Stop by the Aqua Grill at 950 Sawgrass Village Drive in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082; 904-285-3017.
White Truffle Pizza at bb’s
Cruising along Hendricks Avenue? You will probably catch the enticing scent of barbecue—that’s bb’s! So many dishes to choose from, including the popular Mediterranean chicken salad or the Thai bbq. It’s difficult to pick just one dish, but if we had to, we suggest the White Truffle Pizza. Covered with wild mushrooms, shaved parmigiano, prosciutto and arugula, this is arguably one of the best pizzas served in the area. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert—the incredible dessert case is filled with decadent slices just for you! Bb’s is at 1019 Hendricks Avenue in San Marco; 904-306-0100.
Sample Bistro Aix’s Steak Frites
Bistro Aix is tops in fine dining, but it manages to be stylish without being unfriendly and formal. Order up some creamy French onion soup, a fresh pasta dish, or lamb short ribs. What makes Bisto Aix’s fare so, well, seductive? We think it’s their faithfulness to Southern French cooking. Like other premium restaurants in the area, it’s hard to pick just one dish, but okay, you forced us. The general consensus is that the Steak Frites is the dish to ask for. It’s a bistro “onglet” steak served with green beans in a red wine shallot sauce, accompanied by French fries. After dinner, step next door to the Onyx Bar for an interesting, original cocktail. Head to 1440 San Marco Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207; 904-398-1949.
Tea-Smoked Duck Breast at Blackstone Grille
What’s all the fuss about modern American fusion? Taste any of Chef Charles Wang’s creations and you’ll understand. Also known for a surprising wine collection, Blackstone pulls out all the stops with the house renditions of vegetable dumplings and flambéed quail! We recommend the Tea-Smoked Duck Breast. It’s topped with an apricot-shallot glaze and served with roasted garlic potatoes, spinach and asparagus. You’ll find this unusually delicious food of Blackstone Grill at 112 Bartram Oaks Walk in Julington Creek, Jacksonville, FL 32259; 904-287-0766.
