Traveling can be expensive and it can extremely hard on a budget. While many people have planned to travel the World in their heads, sadly the plans mostly never come to fruition. Florida is a travel destination for many and it isn’t too hard to see why, with the corals of the Keys, the theme parks of Orlando, and the beauty of the Everglades, Florida is a well sought after state with many activities, it’s a beautiful state with much to view and ton a to do. While we can’t teleport you to the state of Florida, we can give you tips on how to get here cheaper! Here are some tips & tricks to help you get to (and stay in) Florida:
Tip 1: Go in the off-season
Tip 1 for our cheap travel is a simple one, avoid the high season! While there are tons of reasons to travel during the high seasons, it is most certainly NOT ideal for a traveler on a budget to travel to us during our peak seasons! Hotels, airfare, attractions, and gas are all more expensive during our on-season versus our off-season. So, if you have to travel on a budget, then you need to follow this tip to travel cheap, come on the off season!
North Florida: Popular during summer, come during the winter!
South Florida: Popular during winter, come during the summer!
Our in-between seasons: April and May then September through November!
Tip 2: Plan ahead of time!
Planning is crucial for any vacation, but when you find yourself on a budget and in need of cheap travel, planning ahead of time can be the make or break of your trip, especially if you plan on flying down! Airlines offer discounts for early bookings and Hotels do the same, but the more you plan out = the more you realize your true budget.
Tip 3: If you have it (and can fit it), bring it!
If you already own some of the equipment you need for certain activities, bring them with you! Bringing scuba/snorkeling gear will help prevent the costly equipment fees you can’t afford! Bring all the gear you want to cut down on rental expenses!
Bonus: If you can’t bring everything or if you don’t have everything, you can check out a few local vendors that should be able to help you out:
Tip 4: Value and time at Disney
If you’re looking to go to Disney, don’t buy the Park Hopper! It is way too expensive on a budget and you may feel rushed as you try to enjoy your experience, it’s much better to buy the Multi-Day ticket. While you can only explore one park per day, it takes away the $50+ Park Hopper addition and gives you value as well as time.
Tip 5: Look for discounts!
This tip can only apply to everything on your trip! If you look at Pepsi, Coke, and soda cans in general, sometimes they will have fantastic discounts to theme parks, so you can get feel refreshed by the drink itself and by the discount it will give to you! You can also save money by bringing coupons for stores and stocking up on food, going out can be great, but it can also cost you a great amount as well, which leads us to tip 6!
Tip 6: Get your food from grocery stores!
Discounts galore and you don’t have to exactly settle! It’s not only a great way to save a lot of money, it’s also a good way to get rid of homesickness, make a home cooked meal and save some money. If you really want to budget, this is the way to go for food!
Tip 7: Rent a home, not a hotel!
While you can find some cheap hotels, odds are they won’t be the type of places you want to stay. Homes can be more affordable and more comfortable depending on your stay period and duration, they also have the benefit of having fully equipped kitchens, this way you can use tip #6 in full action! Here’s our most resourceful tool, it will allow you to find places in areas for groups small and large: https://www.vacationrentalpros.com/
Tip 8: Pack light and pack right!
If you’re flying down then packing light will be your best option, try the carry-on challenge! Where you only bring a carry-on item and save $50+ on baggage fees!
Tip 9: Aim for small secondary airports
If you’re traveling by air you may find it hard to get here cheap, but it is still possible. If you shop around for tickets you can find lovely hidden airports that cost a fraction of the price to fly to! While the drive may be 30-40 minutes longer for you, prices are almost literally cut in half at times!
Tip 10: Go out and about!
Florida has MANY inexpensive ways to enjoy your trip! We have the Everglades, lighthouses, state parks, beautiful beaches, and so much more! Florida has so much to experience and it is very much so worth exploring, especially on a budget! Many of these activities are beautiful and interesting, but they are also cheap!
